BIOSTIMULATORS
Biostimulators

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body, and we need it to form a scaffold that supports cells and tissues, leading to robust, radiant and smoother skin. When we start losing collagen around the mid-twenties, there are wonderfully non-invasive ways to boost collagen today. Biostimulators are one of the most popular skin rejuvenation techniques in the world of beauty. Biostimulation therapy is used to promote the restoration of collagen and the tightening of the facial skin. In these treatments, the area is treated with proteins that interact with the body’s natural growth factors. By connecting with the tissues at a molecular level, the skin begins to renew itself, ultimately resulting in a tighter face. Biostimulators soften fine lines and wrinkles and give a soft and natural glow. Biostimulation therapy is a process that takes time and patience, but the results are long-lasting. The area of application is all over the face and/or body – including the knees, neck, elbows and buttocks. Treatment is minimally invasive, where a series of injections of a biorevitalization cocktail (that may contain hyaluronic acid, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, poly-L-lactic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite, etc.) is delivered into a superficial layer of the skin. This infusion of savvy ingredients nourishes and rejuvenates the skin while stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, both essential for skin’s vibrant look. There are a variety of Biostimulators on today’s market, such as Sculptra, Radiesse, etc.

Sculptra is a cosmetic product used to fill defects of the skin at deep levels. It stimulates collagen development. It does not directly provide volume filling; instead, Sculptra causes the formation of new collagen. Sculptra is injected under the skin in the area to be treated. These injections can cause mild discomfort. The treated areas will be mildly sore for up to three days after treatment. Your skin will be deeply massaged and manipulated after treatment.

Radiesse is indicated for subdermal implantation for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds (such as nasolabial folds), and it is also intended for restoration and/or correction of the signs of facial fat loss (lipoatrophy) in people with human immunodeficiency virus. Radiesse is comprised of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHa) microspheres, suspended in a sodium carboxymethylcellulose gel carrier. Upon injection, it initially acts as a filler. It is easily malleable, can be used to shape and contour large areas of the face, and provides immediate one-to-one correction for results which patients can see right away. Once injected, Radiesse starts the process we refer to as neocollagenesis, stimulating the steady, ongoing growth of the body’s own collagen. In fact, for many patients, the benefits of treatment with Radiesse last up to a year or more. Radiesse treatments involve injections that are planted intradermally through a fine gauge needle into the treated area. Alternatives to Radiesse treatments include, but are not limited to: other dermal fillers (i.e. collagen, fat, synthetic polymers), laser resurfacing, surgical facelift, or lasers for skin laxity.
